SBQ: In the begining there was a stitch

It’s SBQ time again! Today’s SBQ was suggested by Jennifer and is:

How did you get started stitching? Was there a person that inspired you?

I don’t know exactly when I first picked up a needle and thread but I first started stitching as a child… it was going to happen as my Mum was a fabric and fashion teacher, there was always fabric lying around… we had draws and draws full of fabric. Although embroidery wasn’t her main area, we did stitch various things together… however thinking back, it was all freestyle (no kits), I remember loads of french knots and daisy chains LOL. Unfortunately embroidery and sewing weren’t encouraged at school but I did attend the Young Embroiders for a number of years. Eventually I got distracted by dress making (mums’ speciality) and I forgot all about embroidery.

I started stitching again last year, my reasons I wanted to take up a hobby and I realised how much I missed stitching and being creative.

Although I’m not challenging Mum’s stash of fabric, I have certainly have more threads and beads!
